Hipnottick Erra live at the Historic Village, Tauranga, New Zealand, Saturday 5th September 2009. Quintin Chrystal (guitar and vocals), Lewis Martin (saxophones and percussion), Graham Hare (bass guitar), Colin Beere (drums and percussion), Vicky Long (vocals) and Tim York (percussion) performing a rough version of Michael Franks' tongue-in-cheek song "It's Over". This outdoor blast was to celebrate the opening of Helen's new bead shop. Thanks to Vernon Solomon for introducing this number in the 1980s: it's stood the test of time. Thanks too to RSV Productions and Colleen Gourlay for processing and packaging the original files.
Hipnottick Erra is a multi-genre, postmodernist, South African-Kiwi crossover band dedicated to producing spontaneous, exploratory, freeform musical improvisation. They dip into a range of genres, including experimental echo, traditional and smooth jazz, African township jazz/mbaqanga, rhythm 'n' blues, neo-punk, reggae, ska, melodic pop and various absurdist traditions. They provide an "hipnottick"/hypnotic, rhythmical platform for a range of creative musicians and attempt to welcome in "erras"/errors in the interests of discovering new possibilities. They seek to find the path by bumping into the walls.
